Indian denizens seeking health care in the modern era often rely on “Western” approaches, such as government-sponsored specialists, charity hospitals, and private clinics. Less familiar practices are frequently also included in the healing process, such as Ayurvedic clinics, yoga retreats, medicinal spices, meditation, and spiritualism. In this study abroad program, we interact with practitioners and patients alike to observe these seemingly disparate approaches to health care in India. Additionally, we witness unique end-of-life ceremonies and hospice care environments that suffuse a culture where many ascribe to the concept of reincarnation. In general, we will examine contemporary changes in Indian health care under the impact of globalization.

This study tour fulfills the ITL general education requirement.
