Southeast Asia possesses a long history, a complex geography, and most notably, diverse cultural heritages. Today’s Southeast Asia as a whole holds its demographic and economic significance in the global context. This class is intended for students from multiple disciplines interested in learning about the rich cultural traditions of Southeast Asia and their evolution in contemporary Southeast Asian societies.
It will encourage students to engage broadly in the diverse collection of rapidly changing societies and economies and develop a deep understanding through direct contact with the people, places, cuisine, religions, and social customs that serve as our unwritten text. It is intended as a travel course with a rotating itinerary that covers diverse countries and regions in Southeast Asia.
This course fulfills the SI, ITL, and IDP requirements (students can get one of ITL/IDP, but not both).
