This course offers students the opportunity to address unmet community needs of personal interest that are related to their major in areas such as poverty, healthcare, education, environment, and more. Students learn about civic engagement and community issues locally, nationally, and globally affecting marginalized populations, drawing upon their service experiences to promote sustainable change, not charity. We will accomplish this by participating in a variety of local service learning opportunities in the major cities and rural communities of South Africa and connecting those experiences with current and historical issues of racism and classism.

This course fulfills the GH and ITL requirements.
