Allied health science healthcare career spotlight: Clinical nutrition
Clinical nutrition focuses on the use of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to prevent, manage, and treat disease. Registered dietitians (RD or RDN) are healthcare professionals trained to assess nutritional status, develop individualized care plans, and support patients with acute and chronic conditions.
They translate nutrition science into practical, evidence-based care.
Academic pathway
The Allied Health Science Department provides the academic preparation and structured advising needed to successfully enter competitive clinical nutrition programs.
Our 3 + 2 curriculum model is intentionally designed for student success:
- Years 1-3: Complete allied health science major coursework, general education, and graduate program prerequisites requirements.
- Years 4-5: Focus on graduate coursework in clinical nutrition and immersive clinical placements.
Through our partnership with Rush University, students pursue a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition, which prepares them to meet eligibility requirements for the National Examination for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN).
