Stammtisch: German Lunch Table

Stammtisch (the German lunch table) allows students to build cultural and linguistic fluency with other Carthage students. Students and Target Language Experts meet weekly for lunch in The Caf and speak German with one another. Students can find out more about Stammtisch on The Bridge, the campus e-newsletter.


J-Term

Students visit a museum in Germany. January Term is a month-long period of study in January in which all academic departments at Carthage offer innovative courses on campus as well as study tours in other countries. Recent J-Term offerings from the Modern Languages Department include:

  • Luther and the Reformation (study tour)
  • Representations of German History: Berlin, Dresden, and Munich (study tour)
  • Christian Responses to Nazism

Target Language Experts

At Carthage, introductory language courses are taught by native speakers. The College hires graduate students from around the world to come to Carthage to share their language and culture.
