Animation Major & Minor
Major in animation and film at Ðǿմ«Ã½
The animation and film major offers students the opportunity to create emergent media and work within the established field of film while exploring studio application, production-based workflows, visual storytelling, film and new media theory, and associated history.
Complement your major with a minor in animation
Students minoring in animation will build a foundation in animation, studio, and new media practices while enhancing their studies with opportunities to explore creative disciplines in game design, new media, and digital communications.
Animation is a growing field with opportunities in multiple industries. Adding a minor in animation to your major can expand your skills and make you more marketable for jobs and graduate school. The animation minor complements majors in art, computer science, game development, graphic design, photography, public relations, or theatre.
Courses that prepare you for the evolving digital world

The courses provide necessary techniques, skill sets, historical context, and critical theory to prepare students for an increasingly digital global landscape of time-based visual content. Within this major, students may choose to pursue coursework that emphasizes animation design (2D/3D) or film while providing a foundation in moving image production, its history, and the discipline of new media (video art, sound art, light, computational and interactive art, and other new media and time-based forms.) Students also may integrate photography and computer science into their studies further enhancing their development of new media skills.
