Colleen Palmer, associate professor of communication and digital media, has been helping students at Carthage get internships and jobs since she started teaching in 2013. In her Public Relations Campaigns class, which she teaches every spring, students work with local companies to plan and implement PR campaigns for their business, giving students real-world experience while attending college. She helps
students develop professional skills, such as writing, speaking, analysis, and crisis management.

With over 35 years of litigation experience, Michael Phegley, associate professor of management and marketing, has been able to help students find internships since he started working at Carthage in 2003. His work with the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee for the State Bar of Wisconsin, Village of Mount Pleasant, and Racine County Bar Association has given him many connections in the area. He also helps students build their professional skills through his courses, such as Mock Trial, where students learn public speaking, adaptability, critical thinking, and presentation skills.

Robert Nagel, professor of engineering, knows how to prepare his students for a future in the industry, thanks to his background with the American Society of Medical Engineers and the American Society of Engineering Education. Inspired by his early passion for engineering, Prof. Nagel is dedicated to helping students uncover their own interests and guide them toward achieving their goals.

Stephanie Mitchell, professor of history, joined the Carthage community in 2002 and has made a lasting impact on her students since. She teaches on a wide variety of Latin American history topics and encourages her students to complete undergraduate research. Julie Dawson, associate professor of accounting and finance, has worked at Carthage since 2001. Prior to that, she worked as an auditor for Deloitte. Her work has helped her gain sufficient knowledge in the field. She guides students into internships and jobs, while supporting on-campus organizations such as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and the Carthage Accounting Association.

Laura Rodman Huaracha, professor of communication and digital media, has been helping students land internships since 2007. Prof. Huaracha has worked for major clients, such as Häagen-Dazs, Motorola, Guinness, and Potbelly Sandwich Works, before pursuing teaching full time. Her background has helped her prepare students for working in non-profit and and major corporations.

Matthew Hougland, assistant professor of music, helps students pursue careers in music and musical theatre. He has an extensive and diverse background in theatre, including performance, production, and musical direction, allowing him to help students with complex and different career goals, whether they dream of performing on Broadway or working in education.

Debbie Minsky-Kelly, clinical assistant professor of social work, has over 20 years of clinical social work experience in child welfare, homeless healthcare, hospital mental health, and substance abuse treatment. In addition, she’s been involved in research efforts in response to intimate partner violence. Her specialized knowledge and connections have helped students land internships in Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine.
