Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of the welcoming community and opportunities for success. When arriving on campus, I knew immediately that Carthage would provide many friendships and opportunities for me to grow academically and personally. Here, I am able to explore my interests and prepare for my future.”

Faculty mentors

“The Carthage faculty have made a significant impact on my life and my career. Because of them, I have become confident in my career path and have already opened up many new doors for potential internships!”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage has been my Introduction to Sociology class with Professor Katherine Hilson. She made every class exciting to attend, and I gained lots of new knowledge from taking this course.”

Campus involvement

“I am involved in the Carthage Philharmonic Orchestra on campus. Being a part of the orchestra has brought me many new friendships and allows me to continue playing my instrument. I look forward to every rehearsal and performing at every concert. I am also in Lambda Kappa, which is the co-ed music fraternity at Carthage. Being a part of this fraternity has been a wonderful experience so far, and it’s truly incredible to work with other talented individuals who also love music.”

Unique opportunities

“I am extremely grateful to have been able to travel during J-Term as a first-year student. The Philharmonic Orchestra went to Germany and Austria, and we performed in Vienna. Through this incredible experience, I was able to learn more about the different cultures of these countries, and gained a new appreciation for music.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is definitely the Hedberg Library. There are so many locations within the library that offer a relaxing spot for students to study and hangout with friends.”

Favorite memory

“One of my favorite memories at Carthage is of the Christmas Festival! Performing during Christmas Fest is such a beautiful experience, and being able to celebrate Christmas with a large audience is amazing. My favorite part of the festival is the candle lighting during ‘Silent Night.’”

Best study tip

“Don’t procrastinate, and study gradually. Procrastinating is such an easy habit that can become detrimental to many students’ academic careers. I recommend creating a calendar with your assignment deadlines or using a planner. I also recommend studying material gradually instead of cramming it all in the night before a test.”

Best tip for making friends

“The best way to make friends at Carthage is by getting involved! Carthage offers many clubs that are open to everyone. I recommend finding what you are interested in and going to a club that best tailors to your interest. You will meet so many new people.”

Biggest surprise

“The biggest surprise for me has been the amount of opportunities available. I have had many academic opportunities along with opportunities to travel that I would not have gotten at any other college.”
