Kylene McNeese ’29, a recipient of the Clausen Scholarship, has been able to pursue multiple areas of study at Carthage. “I’m so grateful to Carthage for giving me a scholarship It has allowed me to pursue so many opportunities on campus,” she says. A psychology major with plans to pursue a career in speech pathology, Kylene also minors in French, combining her academic interests with her passion for language. She is also continuing her love for the performing arts by minoring in musical theatre, singing as a soprano in the Carthage Choir and playing violin in the Philharmonic Orchestra. Her favorite performances include the Christmas Festival and the mainstage theatre production of “The Moors.”

When Kylene isn’t singing, acting, or in classes, she’s exploring downtown Kenosha’s coffee shops and cafes. “It’s so nice to go to breakfast or brunch with a friend at small businesses like K-Town Cafe, Anna’s on the Lake, and The Buzz!”

“My favorite class so far has been Music Theory. I love the environment and the topic, and my professor makes the class so fun!”

“I’m involved in the Carthage Treble Choir, Carthage Philharmonic, and the on campus.”

“I’ve had the amazing opportunity to study abroad during J-Term with the Philharmonic Orchestra. We went to Germany and Austria, and it was such an amazing experience. ”

Career goal

“I would like to continue my education and get my master’s degree in speech language pathology to become a speech pathologist.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is Starbucks because I love using my Birdie Bucks to get drinks and study with my friends. When it’s warm out, I also love sitting down by the beach to relax and hang out with friends.”

Best study tip

“Invest in a planner or calendar. Having a list of all the things you need to get done each week is super helpful, especially when it’s busy.”

Best tip for making friends

“Join organizations on campus. The best way to find people who are similar to you is to join a club that you’re interested in. Through programs like choir and the orchestra, I’ve met some of my closest friends.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“My 8-year-old self would be so happy that I found an amazing balance between a career that interests me and performing.”
