Major(s)

Marketing, Public Relations

A double major in public relations and marketing, Rose Meyers ’28 is sharpening her skills at Carthage — both in the classroom and through The Aspire Program, the College’s signature career-development initiative. The program has helped her strengthen her resume, navigate job applications, and build confidence in her career path. Rose also works as a public relations representative for The Aspire Program. In her role, she engages in social media management, content creation, and relationship-building with both peers and staff. “It’s been a great way to gain real-world experience while contributing to campus life,” she says.

Outside of academics, Rose loves to explore ԴDz’s downtown area. Her favorite activities are going to local coffee shops, such as Anna’s on the Lake or The Buzz, and checking out the many antique malls nearby. “It is such a fun way to socialize and find unique treasures,” Rose says.

“I chose Carthage because I really liked the small class sizes and the sense of community here.”

Faculty mentors

“One of the biggest influences on my Carthage journey has been my College Success Seminar instructor Amy Malczewski. I still remember walking into her class as a nervous freshman who had no idea what I wanted to do with my major. Amy took the time to get to know me and helped me explore different career options connected to my interests. She even recommended I take the J-Term class: Career Planning in Marketing, Communications, and the Arts — which opened my eyes to creative and social career possibilities I had never considered before. In that class, we practiced mock interviews, built resumes and cover letters, filled out job applications, and attended a career fair. I learned so much in that short time and met so many inspiring mentors who continue to guide me today.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage so far has been Studies in American Literature. This class pushes me to think critically and see literature from new perspectives. I love how every discussion connects our stories to real-world issues, as well as the other works we’ve read in class. I’ve also built great connections with my classmates through conversations and debates, which makes the class even more engaging. Our professor’s passion for teaching and literature shines through in every lesson. That energy makes me even more excited to learn. It’s one of those classes that stays with you long after you leave the room.”

Toughest class

“My toughest class so far has been Macroeconomics. It challenged me to think critically about complex economic systems and how they affect everything from businesses to everyday life. Even though it was difficult, I learned a lot. I developed stronger problem-solving and analytical skills to help me in my future career.”

Campus involvement

“I am the treasurer of , a peer coach, and a member of the and .”

Career goal

“I would love to work at a magazine company and grow into a leadership position by being a positive and insightful mentor to others. I want to help shape how organizations engage with their audiences in meaningful ways.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is definitely Starbucks. It’s where I always run into familiar faces, and it’s become a great place to relax, recharge, and connect with friends between classes.”

Favorite memory

“One of my favorite Carthage memories is when a big group of us gathered in The Tower to bake cookies and brownies. We spent the night laughing, playing music, and handing out treats to friends around campus.”

Best study tip

“My biggest study tip is to find what works best for you. I like to make a to-do list and a step-by-step calendar. I always study with friends because it keeps me accountable for finishing my work and makes it more fun.”

Biggest surprise

“The biggest surprise for me was joining a sorority! I never pictured myself doing that when I first came to Carthage, but it’s been one of my best decisions. I’ve met so many amazing girls who have truly become my sisters. It definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, but in the best way. Whether studying together, hanging out, or simply having someone to talk to — this community has been a huge source of encouragement and mental support.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“If my 8-year-old self could see me now, she would be so proud and pretty shocked! Back then, little Rose never thought she’d make it to college, let alone become as social and brave as I am today.”
