History

Aeden Farrar ’27 always enjoyed watching historical documentaries as a child, which sparked a lifelong passion for the past. Now a history major at Carthage, Aeden gets to explore those interests first-hand. He is looking forward to traveling to England and France for J-Term to witness the historical sights of WWII. In addition, he is eager to gain cultural diversity and real-world experience to benefit his future career. “I am extremely excited to get to experience everything during the trip,” he says.

Outside academics, Aeden loves exploring ԴDz’s vibrant downtown and lakeside. “The things I find most fun about Kenosha are the lake, which has a beautiful beach view, and the downtown. I love to get coffee with my friends and study at Anna’s on the Lake or The Buzz,” he says.

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of its small class sizes, which allow me to form deeper connections with professors and students. Also, nothing can beat that lake view.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class was Historical Methods. In it, I had the opportunity to research very niche topics on Shamanism and write a lengthy 17-page paper. I was astonished at how much I could accomplish and even won an award within the department for my work!”

Campus involvement

“I’m involved with a few clubs, but the main thing that keeps me busy is the . It is extremely challenging and time consuming, but the effects it has and the friends I have made are what keep me going.”

Internships or campus employment

“I have been able to work under and form friendships with my professors as a history fellow. This position helps me learn and grow while keeping that raw excitement every day.”

Career goal

“I plan on going into government or some form of intelligence. Foreign affairs have always been a particular interest of mine.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is the rocky beach down by the dorms. If I ever need to take a moment, I sit and stare off at the setting sun. The orange sky makes the lake shine beautifully.”

Favorite memory

“Some of my favorite Carthage memories have to be cheering my teammates on during our conference or signing my name into the book of the History Honors Society.”

Best tip for making friends

“Go to everything there is to do and see on campus. Join the clubs, enjoy the free food at events, and put yourself out there. You will have no issue finding friends.”

Biggest surprise

“The biggest surprise I have had at Carthage is the culture change. I came from a place where I would only have to do the bare minimum to get by. It is extremely exciting and fulfilling to learn, explore, and challenge myself. I am glad I have been able to experience this at Carthage.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“When I was 8 years old, I would watch hour-long documentaries of ancient civilizations and fantastical stories. If my old self could see what I have experienced and will continue to experience, he would be exhilarated.”
