Nuclear medicine is a specialized area of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive materials (radiopharmaceuticals) to diagnose and treat disease. Unlike traditional X-rays or CT scans, which show anatomy, nuclear medicine focuses on how organs and tissues function at the cellular and molecular levels.

Academic pathway:

The Allied Health Science Department provides the academic preparation and structured advising needed to successfully enter competitive nuclear medicine programs.

Our 3 + 1 curriculum model is intentionally designed for student success:

  • Years 1-3: Complete allied health science major coursework and general education requirements
  • Final Year 4: Focus on specialized nuclear medicine coursework and immersive clinical placements

Through our clinical partnership with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, students gain high-quality clinical training experiences that support eligibility for the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) certification.
