The Ðǿմ«Ã½ Community Literacy Center’s mission is to work with families of the Kenosha community to advance education centered on joy through literacy programs and activities. We plan to offer a variety of literacy-related programming opportunities to elementary and middle school students, and to young families.

Stop by our Little Free Library and pick up a book or share a book! We have several pamphlets available to assist young families in setting up their children for success in becoming readers and writers!

VALENTINE’S DAY CARDS AND TREATS WORKSHOP~Kids ages 5 - 8 who want to make creative cards and tasty treats for their friends and families are invited to stop by the Literacy Center for a workshop on how to make these special items! 

WHEN: Tuesday, February 10, from 4:00 - 5:00pm 

 

NEW READERS’ ADVENTURES~Kids ages 5 - 8 are invited to join us for fun activities using leveled readers that provide practice using their new reading skills. We’ll enjoy creative activities and games together based on the books we’ve read. Snacks and take-home handouts included.

WHEN: Thursdays, 4:00 - 5:00pm, on the following dates:

  • February 19, 2026: focusing on Black History
  • March 19, 2026: friendship theme
  • April 16, 2026: spring fun theme
  • May 21, 2026: art and music theme

 

YOUNG AUTHORS CLUB~Calling all future authors ages 9 and up! You are invited to join our Young Authors Club, where we participate in creative writing activities and work on publishing our own literature and arts magazine. Snacks included!

ENGLISH LANGUAGE COOKING CLASS~Young adults age 11 and up are invited to practice and apply your English speaking skills by cooking tasty meals with us. Open to all who are interested in developing either their English skills or their cooking skills…or both!

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION~Families are invited to participate in a carousel of activities in honor of 2026 Children’s Book Week, focusing on their theme, “Books: Get Curious!” We will joyfully engage in fun activities designed to motivate children and their caregivers to read for pleasure. Books, crafts, games, refreshments, and take-home packets will all be provided free of charge.
