Target Language Experts, or TLEs, are young university graduates from around the world who are hired by the College to teach introductory language and advanced conversation courses.

Meet our Japanese TLEs

Yui Nakamura (Japan)
ynakamura1@carthage.edu

“Hello. I am Yui Nakamura, one of the new TLEs from Japan. I graduated from J.F. Oberlin University in Tokyo. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and am involved in Japanese language education. I used to work with many international students in Japan while studying at university. They let me know how big the world is and how languages brighten my days. I speak Japanese, English, and Korean now and will never stop learning languages. It is an honor to come to beautiful Carthage to teach Japanese. I am so excited! I would like to make a comfortable and friendly classroom. I am here to help you learn Japanese and bring opportunities to get in touch with Japanese culture. See you all in my class.”

Tomomi Tagashira (Japan)
ttagashira@carthage.edu

“はじめまして。My name is Tomomi Tagashira, and I am honored to join Carthage as a TLE in Japanese. I bring over 15 years of experience in international education and university administration in Japan, creating study abroad programs, internships, and partnerships with universities around the world. I studied marketing communications at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, which first sparked my passion for cross-cultural exchange. Outside of work, I love following Japanese MLB players — especially Shohei Ohtani from the Dodgers and Shota Imanaga with the Cubs — and I enjoy listening to classical music. At Carthage, I look forward to sharing Japanese language and culture with students and learning from their unique experiences as well.”
