Carthage offers a major and minor in economics. To earn a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Carthage, students must complete the Carthage Core, Distribution Requirements, and the economics major requirements listed below.

Required Courses

Choose 12 or 16 credits of electives in economics from courses 2500 or above.

* Students who have taken ECN 1010 and 1020 may meet this requirement by taking three elective courses; students who have taken only ECN 1030 are required to take four elective courses.

Economics majors are not required to, but may, obtain concentration in any of the three areas of discipline by taking at least two of their required economics electives within the concentrations listed below and taking at least two complimentary, non-economics, courses within the concentration. Concentrations will be noted by the registrar and will be included in student transcripts.

The Public Policy Analysis concentration is designed for students who are interested in studying how public policy affects the economy, the intersection of government and business behavior, and how economic structures lead to disparate outcomes within society.

The International Economics concentration is designed for students interested in studying the global economy, how goods and services flow across national boundaries, and the structure of economies in other areas of the world.

The Financial Economics concentration is designed for students with an interest in finance but choose not to major in economics and finance. Students will study how the global financial system works, the role of central banking, and how firms and individuals make financial choices.
