Proofreading Policy
See writing from a different point of view. Proofreading is important but Writing Fellows are primarily trained to help you revise (rather than edit) your paper. That means reading it over with you and focusing on ways to improve the overall argument, evidence, and structure. Once these higher-order concerns are addressed, fellows will support you in the final stage of proofreading by helping you discover patterns of error in your draft, sharing resources, and teaching you self-editing techniques.
No-Show Policy
Students who fail to keep an appointment with the Writing Center prevent other students from receiving the help they need. To limit “no shows,” we have the following policy:
The first time in a given semester that a student fails to cancel an appointment through or misses an appointment, it will be recorded, but the account will remain active. The second time in that same semester that the student fails to cancel an appointment through , they will be temporarily restricted from making appointments and must contact the Director of the Writing Center and Peer Tutoring to reinstate their account. Students who consistently no-show their WCOnline appointments will be blocked from making any additional appointments for the remainder of that semester.
will allow students to cancel within two hours of an appointment but will still mark the session as a late cancellation.
If there are special circumstances you would like us to consider if this policy is applied to you, please email the Director of the Writing Center and Peer Tutoring, Dr. Anna Hegland, at ahegland@carthage.edu.
