Why Carthage?
“I grew up coming to Carthage for different summer camps and events, and I grew to really like the campus.”
Faculty mentors
“The faculty at Carthage truly set me up for success. I have gotten to know so many professors, and they always share different opportunities around campus or in the community. For example, I attended the Illinois Music Education Conference with Carthage, and it was an amazing experience.”
Favorite class
“My favorite class has been Conducting Fundamentals because conducting is a huge part of my major, especially when it comes to leading an ensemble. It was really fun to see everyone playing their instrument or singing while we took turns leading the class.”
Toughest class
“Woodwind Techniques was my hardest class because I had never played a woodwind instrument before, so learning all the instruments in the span of a few weeks was a big challenge for me.”
Campus involvement
“I am the second vice president of Lambda Kappa, the music fraternity on campus. I am also a part of and play the viola in the Philharmonic Orchestra.”
Unique opportunities
“During J-Term, I was able to go to Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna with the Philharmonic Orchestra. On this trip, I saw a lot of historic places including Dachou and Mozart’s House. In Vienna, we also performed our own concert and saw the Vienna Symphony.”
Internships or campus employment
“On campus, I work as a resident assistant and as the Philharmonic’s music librarian.”
