20 reasons to love Carthage

“When I kept hearing about how small the class sizes were at Carthage and how they were taught by professors and not teaching assistants, Carthage seemed like a good match for me.”

Faculty mentors

“I’ve felt really welcome by all the faculty members I’ve met so far. They make sure to tell me what I need to work on and give me opportunities to improve. If I ever fall behind, they lengthen their office hours to ensure help is always available.”

Favorite class

“Fundamental Physics really highlighted most of the things physics has to offer. It didn’t teach everything in physics or go in-depth into all the concepts, but it was a good starting point.”

Toughest class

“Calculus II has been my toughest class at Carthage so far. My professor really tried to make sure we understood the main ideas and could think through problems that were a little different from the homework. Doing well didn’t feel impossible — I just had to put in extra effort.”

Favorite spot on campus

“I really like the David A. Straz Jr. Center. The main area has super comfortable seating, and it’s one of my favorite spots to go to get homework done. There’s also a patio outside that’s great for enjoying the lake breeze when it’s not winter. The spaces near the professors’ offices are always quiet and calm, and I use them a lot when I want to study, relax, or take a breather from the day.”

Best tip for making friends

“Join study groups or clubs and talk to people in general. It’s common to feel afraid of talking to people on your first day of class. But don’t let that stop you from saying hi or participating in small talk before class starts. You might not automatically become best friends with the person you talk to, but you have to start somewhere.”

Biggest surprise

“The food at Carthage has been really good. I always hear horror stories about how terrible college food is, but for me, I found that it tastes pretty good here. Also, it’s always nice to talk to the people who serve my food.”
