Social Work

Clytise McGee ’26, a social work major, is passionate about making a difference in people’s lives. For her, social work goes beyond just helping others — it’s about growing in compassion, building problem-solving skills, and learning how to truly support those in need. “My plan is to be open-minded, patient, and ready to learn from every experience.”

Clytise’s favorite thing about living on the Carthage campus is being near Lake Michigan — whether she’s watching the sun rise, spending time on the beach, or walking by the water. “The lake makes the city feel calm and peaceful.”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of its social work program and the chance to work closely with professors in a small classroom setting.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage has been Animation. I liked it because I got to be creative and turn my drawings into moving stories. It taught me patience and showed me how much work goes into making animations.”

Toughest class

“My toughest class at Carthage has been Anatomy and Physiology. It was hard because there was so much information to learn and remember. Even though it was challenging, it pushed me to study harder and taught me better learning habits.”

Internships or campus employment

“I have an internship at the Racine Public Library. I help by organizing programs, assisting visitors, and learning how libraries support the community. It gives me experience working with people and using skills that relate to social work.”

Career goal

“I plan to get my master’s degree to gain more knowledge and skills so I can make an even bigger impact in my community. My career goal is to become a social worker and help people improve their lives.”

Best study tip

“My best study tips are: make a schedule, take breaks, and stay organized. Also, review your notes often and ask for help when you don’t understand something.”

Best tip for making friends

“The best ways to make friends at Carthage are to get involved in clubs, attend events, or participate in campus activities. Joining classes and study groups also helps you meet people with similar interests. Being friendly, open, and willing to try new things makes it easier to connect with others.”
