Why Carthage?
“I chose Carthage because of the resources. I knew there were many organizations to choose from and amazing opportunities to students. Also, I couldn’t forget about the amazing lake view. I knew my day would be great if I had a nice view walking to class every day.”
Faculty mentors
“The Carthage faculty have been nothing but amazing and supportive. The professors have helped a lot by providing me with needed resources and networking opportunities — telling me about events and student clubs.”
Favorite class
“My favorite class so far was Public Relations Campaigns because I got to work with a few businesses that came to the class for help with public relations and marketing. Getting hands-on experience with a business is amazing. I learned a lot and got to put my skills to real-world use. Helping a business succeed was a great milestone for my career. Professor Colleen Palmer helped me throughout the class and was a great leader.”
Toughest class
“My toughest class was Financial Accounting. Personally, I am not good at math. Although the professor was great, the pace of the class was challenging for me to keep up with.”
Campus involvement
“I am involved with the spirit team as a cheerleader, which allows me to show Carthage spirit, hype, and help. As a team, we go to all and games and do our best to showcase the greatness of Carthage. I am also involved in Velocity Consulting LLC, Enactus, PRSSA, and plan to join Pi Sigma Epsilon Business Fraternity Club. All these organizations allow me to have hands-on experience within my field of study. I have worked with many businesses through Velocity. I have helped plan many meaningful events, such as charity events with Enactus. PRSSA has allowed me to grow more knowledge about public relations.”
Internships or campus employment
“I work as a social media intern for the Office of Marketing and Communications on campus. This role allows me to be creative and help showcase the vibrant spirit of Carthage through its social media platforms. This taught me more about social media, filming, editing, etc. I have grown a lot during this internship with the help of the amazing staff.”
Career goal
“I hope to become a brand marketing coordinator or something along those lines. This would allow me to help with campaigns, launches, and promo events within the company. I would love a position enabling me to do a little of everything — a mix of event planning and public relations.”
Best tip for making friends
“The best way to make friends on campus is to get involved. Once you join something you love, you will meet many people with the same passions as you. Go to campus events such as the Kickoff Carnival or Orientation. Once you put yourself out there, finding the best people will be much easier!”
