What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“I feel immense pride in being able to financially support myself while pursuing my dream of a professional acting career. Sharing the joy of the arts with my students and audiences alike has filled my life with meaning, and I am profoundly grateful for that.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“The Master of Music program’s hands-on approach gave me the opportunity to teach and direct students in a controlled environment, giving me the confidence I needed to be able to do the same thing out in the professional world.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“Very few schools offer a program that focuses on music theatre vocal pedagogy, and Carthage was amazingly flexible — making sure my goals, timeline, and financial considerations were all accounted for.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“I rely on teaching and music directing opportunities to supplement my income. Without my Carthage education, I wouldn’t have the tools necessary to succeed in those roles.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“Every single professor I worked with in the Master of Music program helped me grow and flourish. The small, tight-knit community made sure that my needs as a student were always met with attention.”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“I always try to make sure my students find the truth in the stories they tell onstage. Stories bring us together, inspire us, and teach us valuable lessons about the world. It’s a humble task to bring stories to people, but I think it is still an important one.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“Stepping into the director position for the undergraduate production of “Hair” was an extremely formative experience. I am still in awe of the graciousness and professionalism that the students and my colleagues showed me. I’m very proud of the artistry and camaraderie that we were able to devise together.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“Pursue as many opportunities for growth as you can, especially those opportunities that feel like a reach or can be uncomfortable and scary. They’re often harder to get access to outside of school.”
