Jacob Dinauer ’00, M.Ed. ’02 joined the Carthage faculty as an assistant professor of allied health science in 2026, following more than a decade of service as assistant athletic director for sports medicine and adjunct assistant professor.

In his administrative role, he provided strategic oversight of medical services for all Carthage student-athletes as a member of the athletics leadership team. He led and supervised the clinical athletic training staff, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality emergency care, injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services.

Prof. Dinauer also served as the institution’s designated NCAA athletics health care administrator, with responsibility for ensuring compliance with NCAA health and safety legislation and inter-association consensus statements related to student-athlete well-being. Additionally, he provided administrative leadership for sport performance and strength and conditioning programs. His clinical responsibilities included serving as the primary sports medicine provider for football, men’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s golf.

In conjunction with his administrative leadership, Prof. Dinauer held a split academic appointment as a senior lecturer in the Exercise and Sport Science Department. Since returning to Carthage in 2004, he has taught a broad range of courses across exercise and sport science, athletic training, and allied health sciences.

Beyond his work at Carthage, Prof. Dinauer has completed advanced training as a licensed advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT), emergency medical services instructor, and basic life support (BLS) instructor. He also serves the community as an assistant chief with the Raymond Fire & Rescue Department and contributes as an adjunct fire/EMS instructor and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examiner at Gateway Technical College.

Hear from Prof. Dinauer: Why Allied Health Science?

“With 25 years of experience as an athletic trainer and emergency medical services provider, patient care has remained the foundation of my professional identity. Teaching athletic training and allied health science courses allows me to extend that commitment beyond my own practice by shaping the knowledge, skills, and judgment of future healthcare professionals. Through this work, I have the privilege of influencing not only my students’ success, but also the quality of care they will one day provide to their patients. Few moments are more meaningful than hearing from alumni who share how the lessons they learned have made a positive difference in the lives of others.

“When I joined Carthage in 2004, I was confident in my clinical abilities but approached my teaching responsibilities with a sense of humility and uncertainty. Over time, however, teaching became one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. I am deeply grateful to continue this journey at an institution I consider home, alongside colleagues whose mentorship and support have been instrumental in my growth as an educator.”
