Each fall, Professor Colleen Palmer’s Public Relations Writing course gives students the opportunity to work with actual businesses in the Kenosha area.

In 2025, students in this class worked with three nonprofits: the Kenosha HarborMarket, the Kenosha Community Foundation, and Orchids, a nonprofit to help those with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

The class created teams for each of the nonprofits, and the work they learned and created (such as press releases, social media calendars, logos, and more) was developed for their assigned organization.

Logo created by Isabella Kuyava ’27.In December, the students presented to these organizations and exceeded expectations once again! Kenosha HarborMarket was thrilled with new and innovative ideas that were presented by their team that will help them stand out more. The Kenosha Community Foundation got new insights and has asked to hire an intern to further their work this spring.

And Orchids adopted not only many of the ideas, but an entirely new logo created by team member Isabella Kuyava ’27! Orchids’ board president, Guida Brown, made a public shout-out to Prof. Palmer, the students, and Isabella for these changes that will remarkably change the perception of the organization.
