Hallo erstmal!

Have you taken German in the past and would like to practice with a native speaker at lunch in The Caf (which you would eventually have anyways)? Then this is for you: the German Table, a.k.a. Stammtisch, is back!

The German Table meets at 11:45 a.m. Wednesdays between the Center for Student Success and the Engagement and Inclusion Center. Then, we go upstairs together to the cafeteria and eat together. If you cannot make it on time, don’t worry. Just spot the German flag and “Stammtisch” sign, along with a tall, hungry German! We usually end at around 1 p.m., but if you have to go earlier, that is no problem.

Stammtisch outside (from left to right): Marty Ness ’29, Alexandra Venturi ’26, Claudia Clare ’27, Anna Mickelson ’28, Ayla Lotegeluaki ’27, Damian Delong ’29, and Tim Olbrich. We try to speak as much German as possible, but if you sometimes feel like you need to switch to English to make yourself understood, that is perfectly fine. We are all here to learn after all!

If you don’t have a meal plan and/or are a commuter, meal tickets (subject to availability) will be provided.

The Stammtisch is a great opportunity to:

  • get to know other students better
  • improve your German
  • learn from the experiences of your fellow students
  • learn more about German culture
  • build connections to the German program

If you are interested in the German Table, please send an email to Tim Olbrich at tolbrich@carthage.edu and include:

  • how long you had German in high school/college
  • what courses you took/level you reached

German-speaking faculty and staff are also welcome!

Ich hoffe, du kannst dabei sein! Wir sehen uns!
