Carthage students had a unique opportunity to learn from a professional in the photography field when Camela Langendorf, owner of Varitay Studios in downtown Racine, visited Professor Kelly Kruse’s Visual Communication class on Oct. 8.

On the screen is a black and white image of two construction workers through a truck window Ms. Langendorf, a well-known photographer with an impressive portfolio of work, shared her expertise on the art of finding the right lighting in photography and how to capture a person’s true character. She encouraged students to discover their own “superpower” and use it to guide their career paths, emphasizing how personal strengths can lead to professional fulfillment.

Ms. Langendorf’s presentation was dynamic, full of energy, and truly inspiring. “The students were enthralled by her impressive portfolio and captivated by the passion she brought to the classroom,” said Prof. Kruse. “They loved how she challenged them to think about their own superpower and how embracing that can lead to happiness and the right career path.”

Ms. Langendorf, whose work ranges from photographing the demolition of the Bradley Center in Milwaukee to capturing moments for small and medium-sized businesses, shared insights into her creative process. Describing her work as “fun and effortless photography that tells your personal, business, or corporate story with exceptional results,” she emphasized the importance of storytelling through photography.

The event was a valuable learning experience, offering Carthage students practical advice on how to leverage their personal strengths and creativity in both their careers and life.
