As a maintenance technician, this role will provide preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on buildings. Additionally, they are expected to perform general labor throughout buildings and campus grounds and assist skilled trades and other unit employees carry out their job assignments.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist painters/trades with setup, material handling, site access, and cleanup
  • Prepare and protect work areas; move fixtures/furniture; dispose/recycle debris
  • Access confined or elevated spaces; work at heights and below ground as needed
  • Support job safety by escorting staff and maintaining clean, hazard-free sites
  • Maintain, repair, and track department equipment, inventory, and service logs
  • Gather, transport, and manage tools, supplies, and materials for work orders
  • Drive college vehicles to transport personnel, equipment, and supplies
  • Work outdoors in all weather; maintain campus cleanliness
  • Perform essential duties during emergency closures; other assigned tasks
  • Conduct inspections, perform minor repairs/painting, supervise student helpers, and advise on equipment replacement

Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid driver license and satisfactory driving records as determined by Ðǿմ«Ã½.
  • Ability to transport and place very heavy supplies, tools and equipment, including hand power tools, cans of paint and tar, sledge hammers, wheelbarrows, furniture, ladders, sheet metal, bags of sand, cement, lime, building materials, rubble, etc.
  • Ability to access areas at varying heights from below ground level to several stories high.
  • Ability to be flexible and work in variety of positions.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental and possible hazardous conditions utilizing appropriate safety precautions and safety equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Perform manual labor such as moving furniture and equipment; arranging furniture, stages, and seating; and digging holes and ditches using manual tools and power tools.
  • Assist in cleaning of grounds after special events and sweep and clean sidewalks and streets using hand tools and shovels.
  • Make minor repairs to streets including repairing and installing signs.
