Art students, alumni, and professors create steamroller prints at RAM-Wustum Museum
On Aug. 12, studio art professors Lisa Bigalke and Amy Misurelli Sorensen, alumnus Jeremy Topczewski ’19, and current students Alex Yee ’24 and Mackenzie Stanley ’24 were among the local and regional printmakers who participated in the RAM-Wustum Museum (Racine, Wis.) annual event, Full Steam Ahead 2023.
The artists printed large-scale relief prints at this all-day “art-meets-performance” outdoor summer event. What is this relief printing? Designs are carved into large pieces of wood or similar materials, the raise surfaces are inked up and then printed on fabric or paper. At this RAM event, a steamroller was used to press the artists’ designs on to fabric.
The artists sold their prints, with some sales benefiting the museum.
