Medical Laboratory Science
Medical laboratory scientists (MLS), also known as clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists, play a vital role in healthcare by performing laboratory tests that provide essential information for diagnosis and treatment.
Students seeking a Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Science will spend three years earning a B.S. in Allied Health Science at Ðǿմ«Ã½ and 24 months earning an M.S. in Medical Laboratory Science from Rush University, College of Health Sciences.
Prerequisites
The following prerequisite course must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to matriculation:
- Chemistry (14 credits)
- Biology (12 credits)
- College-Level Mathematics (3 credits)
Admission Requirements
Students must meet the following qualifications to be considered for admission:
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0
- Complete the professional prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better
- Complete an application using the Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS)
- Submit your Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores if your native language is not English
- Participate in a personal interview with the Rush University department faculty
The application cycle is from September to August, with a recommended application deadline of May 1.
During the student’s first three years, they will complete the allied health science major requirements and Carthage’s general education curriculum. The undergraduate experience will include healthcare-specific opportunities such as Jump Start Experiences, Grand Rounds, and Journal Club. Serving others is at the center of our mission, so community service events are available throughout the year.
Students accepted into the professional phase begin coursework in the fall term of their fourth year at Rush University, College of Health Sciences. This full-time program takes 24 months and a minimum of 75 credits to complete. The student will obtain hands-on experience at Rush University, College of Health Sciences, one of the nation’s top academic medical centers. At the completion of the program, the student will earn a B.S. in Allied Health Science from Ðǿմ«Ã½ and an M.S. in Medical Laboratory Science from Rush University, College of Health Sciences.
